This program is designed to provide entry-level personnel with base-level knowledge of seamanship to prepare you for a career at sea with BC Ferries, the Canadian Coast Guard, local companies and other Canadian companies operating ships and vessels.

We’ll teach you all of the essential knowledge and skills related to the practice of seamanship, navigation, standards of safe working procedures, and the hazards associated with the marine environment. The Bridge Watch Rating Associate Certificate is the foundation to beginning your career at sea. Centre for Applied Research & Innovation.No prerequisites are required for this course.This course may be eligible for students to receive funding through the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant at Students register themselves into the course, then apply for the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant to cover payment, if eligible. Students should take HRMG 3205 Labour Relations I to learn about employment law as it applies to a unionized workforce.

The course will involve a review of relevant statutes, analysis of decisions from the courts, practical exercises, discussion and student presentations.

While the emphasis will be on the law of employment in the non-union context, comparisons will be made throughout the course between individual and unionized activity and the relationship between unions and employers in Canada. This course will explore the common law legal principles and statutory regimes governing the relationship between individual employees and employers in Canada.
